Lions’ Goff Takes Center Stage: Outshines Tom Brady’s Record, Steals Spotlight with Milestone Performance
The Detroit Lions took care of business at home on Sunday Night at Ford Field in downtown Detroit, defeating the Minnesota Vikings by a final score of 31-9 and securing homefield throughout the playoffs.
The Lions’ defense took center stage as they harassed Sam Darnold into less than 50 percent completions on the night, resulting in less than 200 yards through the air.
Meanwhile, Detroit quarterback Jared Goff continued a hot streak that culminated in a new milestone that had only previously been accomplished by former Patriots and Buccaneers superstar quarterback Tom Brady, according to the Detroit Lions’ PR account on X.
“@Lions QB @JaredGoff16 produced his 9th game of the season with a completion percentage of 75.0%, passing Tom Brady (8 in 2007) for most in a season in @NFL history. #OnePride,” the Lions’ PR account wrote after the game.
Goff did not have anywhere near his best night, completing 27-of-33 passes for 231 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
His toughness in the face of the Vikings’ pass rush and willingness to keep throwing the ball downfield, completing key passes in key situations, ultimately helped the Lions to overcome the Vikings as backfield mate Jahmyr Gibbs stole the show.
Gibbs piled up four touchdowns on the night including one through the air as the Lions won their second straight division championship.
Next up for the Lions is a matchup between the Rams vs. Vikings first round game with a trip to the NFC Championship Game on the line, after Detroit’s first bye since October.
