Lions’ New Superstar Emerges: Budding Superstar on Track for First All-Pro Nod
The Detroit Lions have several players on both sides of the ball who could earn All-Pro selections this season, with one of them being safety Kerby Joseph, who has yet to accomplish that feat.
A former third-round pick of the Lions in 2022, Joseph has taken yet another step forward this season and has been a key piece of Detroit’s improved defense. He also gives the Lions some extra swag with his unmatched confidence.
As a result of his standout showing, The 33rd Team’s Tyler Brooke recently predicted that Joseph would be selected as a first-team All-Pro in 2024. Here’s what he wrote on the Lions’ budding superstar.
“Joseph has nearly identical advanced stats to (Xavier) McKinney for the Lions, and both will continue competing against each other for the league’s interception title through the end of the year.”
The Illinois product’s coverage numbers have also been elite. Joseph is giving up a completion on 42.4% of the passes thrown his way and is surrendering a passer rating of 39.5 when targeted. Both of those numbers are career-highs for him.
Joseph isn’t the only Lions safety who should be in consideration for an All-Pro nod, as his running mate, Brian Branch, is having a sensational season, as well.
Joseph is in the third year of his $5 million rookie contract, so the Lions will have him at a cheap rate for one more season. However, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Detroit decides to lock him up for the long haul in 2025.
