Marner Massive Misread! Fans Stunned by Star Forward Baffling Assessment of Maple Leafs Performance

Fans and media are shocked by the reaction of Mitch Marner to the play of the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. the Vancouver Canucks. After a 3-0 loss, Marner responded to questions about the team’s effort level and said, “I liked it. I thought we played well, I really did. The last couple of games, we’ve been giving up plays to teams that aren’t missing on them.”

What’s most shocking is that the Leafs looked like a team that saw their opponent come in late because of the weather and thought it would be a cakewalk. Marner’s reaction also contradicts the reaction of his coach and teammates. Head coach Craig Berube said, “I didn’t think we had enough pace in the game or played with enough energy.” Defenseman Chris Tanev: “Not good enough. They outworked us, outcompeted us. That’s why they won.” Even Auston Matthews was wise enough not to say the team played well, going instead with criticizing the power play. “We just have to get more pucks to the net. A lot of movement, kind of a lot of nothing going on, I guess.”

Marner is Being Called Delusional

Reporter Steve Simmons looked at the responses of everyone else and then Marner’s and called the latter “delusional.” He’s not the only one having this kind of reaction. One fan on social media wrote, “I’ve said this over and over again, stop Marner from speaking after a game. Get him some media training (I’m surprised this hasn’t happened yet), or staple his a– to the dressing room post-game.” The feeling is that he’s not doing himself or his team any favors by trying to sugarcoat egregious play.

What seems to be irking most fans is that Marner has not taken personal responsibility for recent struggles, especially being on the ice for multiple goals against. His post-game interviews focus on maintaining a positive mindset and “the process,” but sometimes you just need to say how bad things were. There’s a disconnect between what he’s saying and what the fans are seeing and his lack of urgency has some turning on him.

What has some fans worried is the contract situation for Marner. Concerns over his agent reportedly starting contract extension talks at $13.5 million for eight years have some panicking that the Leafs will give him that kind of money and show this lack of awareness throughout his deal.

But it would be nice if just once he said “we need to be better.” … it’s infuriating as a fan seeing all the “we tried we got unlucky, it’s injuries” excuses after excuses when sometimes just play better.”
