Mavericks in Crisis Mode! Emergency Meeting Held to Address Luka Doncic Trade Fallout

Dallas Mavericks CEO and owner Patrick Dumont’s special meeting with team staffers didn’t exactly go well.

The Dallas Mavericks trading away Luka Doncic was in itself a bad move, but the behavior of the front office and leadership after the trade has been shocking.

While the Mavs fanbase expected them to own their mistake, they have seen relentless shots fired at the 25-year-old superstar.

It includes GM Nico Harrison’s lack of remorse and owner Patrick Dumont’s confusing statements. It’s safe to say that the Mavs’ new era plans continue to take a turn for the worse.

Dallas Mavericks held a special two-hour meeting with staff members

More than two weeks after the unexpected trade, the Mavs fanbase continues to express its disappointment over how things have been handled since Doncic’s departure.

According to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein and Tim MacMahon, the Mavs held a special meeting to do some damage control, even taking questions from staff members from different departments.

“Last Thursday, the Mavericks held a two-hour town hall meeting for employees in which both Dumont and Mavericks CEO Rick Welts spoke to the concerns over how the organization had handled the last two weeks and took questions from employees,” the ESPN report revealed.

“The source familiar with the Mavericks’ thinking said Dumont and Welts faced difficult questions. Staffers explained what complaints and anger they’d been subjected to.”

While the exact questions weren’t revealed in the report, it doesn’t take much to figure out in what direction the meeting must have gone.

Welts and Dumont’s message was met with eyerolls

So far, the Mavericks’ top brass is seemingly taking things one day at a time, likely hoping that the outrage among the fans passes.

Welts and Dumont had a similar message to the Mavericks employees, but it didn’t help one bit.

“Dumont and Welts told sales, marketing, and partnership staff members they empathized with their concerns and that they will get through it together, day-by-day. The message was later met with eye-rolls,” the report concluded.

The message goes hand in hand with Welts’ previous revelation about underestimating the reaction from fans before signing off on the move.

If only the top brass had listened to now-minority owner Mark Cuban and backed out of the trade, the Mavericks would likely have the fanbase’s full support for making another NBA Finals run this season.

Instead, Mavs fans feel betrayed after loyally supporting the organization for decades.
