Melo’s Shocking Plea! Carmelo Anthony Makes Desperate Bid for Kevin Durant to Join Wizards
Carmelo Anthony has officially made the case for a Kevin Durant homecoming, pitching the idea for KD to join the Washington Wizards.
Durant is in the midst of a tumultuous season with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns entered Thursday’s slate of games with a 27-31 record, which places the team a few games out of the play-in tournament.
In a recent episode of Anthony’s “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast, Melo argued that Durant would be better off riding off into the sunset in D.C. (1:12:16 mark)
While the Wizards are in a much worse place than the Suns with their league-worst 10-48 record through 58 games, Anthony believes the satisfaction of returning home would do wonders for Durant.
“KD to the Wizards,” Anthony told his podcast co-hosts. “I would like to see him in the Wizards. That’s just me personally with my s—. … Go back home. End it back home. You ain’t gone go chase. You ain’t going to go with these other teams that’s out there. You’ve already got your rings. Go to the Wizards. Bring the energy back to D.C. You’re home.
“You know what I’m saying? So now, go back home. Your family. Your mom. … Go rekindle that fire back out there in D.C. They’ve got pieces now, the Wizards. Marcus Smart, Khris Middleton, Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington. Isn’t Brogdon there? … I ain’t mad at that.”
Durant was born in Washington D.C. and raised in nearby Seat Pleasant, Maryland. There have been rumblings throughout his career for him to go home and play for the Wizards, most notably when he was a free agent in 2016.
But instead of forming a Big 3 with John Wall and Bradley Beal, Durant won two titles with the Golden State Warriors. Durant eventually did team up with Beal in Phoenix, albeit a version of Brad on the decline.
Durant recently spoke highly of what the Wizards’ new front office has done with the team, branding it the next Oklahoma City Thunder. On the other hand, KD has also been on record several times about not wanting to play for his hometown team due to the distractions that come along with it.
But at 36 years old, those “distractions” may sound much more appealing at this point in Durant’s career.
