New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will not return in 2025, a release that will be made official at the start of the new league year. That move will set off a series of decisions that will shape the short-term future of an organization grown far too familiar with losing. First among them will be finding Rodgers’ replacement; second might decide receiver Davante Adams’ fate. Rodgers’ favorite target joined New York in October and found success while the team continued its downward trajectory. Now, with over $38 million in cap being spent on the receiver, it’s likely Mougey looks in another direction. A post-June 1 cut would incur $2.1 million in penalties and $36 million in savings (albeit with the relief arriving later). Potential suitors include the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers, along with other teams who consider themselves contenders and need extra ammunition. Adams will likely end his Jets career with 854 yards and seven scores, leaving New York without a legacy.
