NFL Trade Rumors Explode: Jets’ $140 Million Superstar Linked to Cowboys
The New York Jets have a franchise-changing offseason ahead. They have to hire a new head coach, a new general manager, figure out their quarterback situation, and address a plethora of other questions that surround the team. One analyst predicts an interesting idea for the Jets.
Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton made some bold predictions about the upcoming NFL offseason. One that particularly jumps out for the Jets is a trade.
In Moton’s article, he suggests the Jets will trade Davante Adams to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Jets acquired Adams in October for a conditional pick. The pick is a third-round pick unless Adams were to be named All-Pro or if the Jets make the AFC Championship with Adams on the roster. Clearly, after a 5-12 embarrassment of a season, the Jets will not find themselves in the AFC Championship, and Adams did not make an All-Pro team.
So, Moton’s prediction has the Jets receiving more than they gave up for Adams, who in 11 games with the Jets racked up 854 yards and seven touchdowns.
A likely-massive factor in Adams’ future with the Jets will be the future of Aaron Rodgers. It is unknown if Rodgers will continue playing – for the Jets or anybody. If Rodgers does not retire, it is entirely possible that he does not want to play for the Jets any longer, or if the Jets want him back.
Adams has forced himself out of his two previous stops. First, ending an eight-year stint with Green Bay to be reunited with his Fresno State teammate Derek Carr in Las Vegas. Then, to be reunited with his Green Bay teammate Aaron Rodgers in New York. If Rodgers is no longer on the Jets, it seems unlikely that Adams will want to be either.
With news that Mike McCarthy will not remain as the head coach of the Cowboys, there is no clear link to Adams’ past to suggest he wants to be a Cowboy. However, Adams’ love and admiration for CeeDee Lamb could be a big factor.
On the I Am Athlete podcast in May of 2023, Adams claimed Lamb was a top-five wideout and compared Lamb to himself.
Davante Adams currently has no guaranteed money remaining on his five-year, $140 million contract. The Cowboys, or whoever Adams ends up playing for next season, would have to restructure the deal.
Moving Adams would be a big blow to the offense of the Jets, but with so much uncertainty about the future of the franchise and the direction the team will take, it does make sense to try and get something for Adams, especially if he finds himself unhappy in his current situation.
