Nick Sirianni’s Future is… Adam Schefter Reveals Shocking Update on Eagles’ Coach Future After Super Bowl LIX Win

In the history of the NFL, almost no coach has had the same kind of early success as a head coach as Nick Sirianni has had with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, with a Lombardi Trophy on his shelf, he’ll likely be looking forward to a contract extension.

On the Monday following the Super Bowl, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on The Pat McAfee Show. There, he broke down where Sirianni and the Eagles stand going into the final season of his contract next year.

“I think what will happen is they’ll sit down to do the deal because Nick Sirianni is heading into the last year of his contract,” Adam Schefter said. “You never want a head coach headed into the last year of his contract.”

In his first contract, Nick Sirianni reportedly was paid between $30-$35 million over five years, which amounts to $6-7 million annually. That’s less than many first-time head coaches got paid this cycle, and as Schefter explained, those rookie contracts will likely be a starting point in negotiations.

“Ben Johnson got $13 million a year, but the other rookie coaches didn’t get that. I think the pay cycle for those guys was anywhere from $10-13 million per coach… Ben Johnson came in the highest of the rookie head coaches,” Schefter said.

“So, if you’re Nick Sirianni, and you won a Super Bowl, and you’ve got a year left, and you’re sitting down to talk about your deal, I’m sure the Eagles want to keep that number down and Nick Sirianni is gonna want to drive that number up. I think all of us, right now, could sit down and figure out what we believe to be a fair number. If Ben Johnson got $13 [million], then Nick Sirianni as a Super Bowl-winning coach is worth more than that. Right? So, what is the number? Is it going to be $14, $15 [million]? I don’t think they’re gonna pay him like the upper echelon coaches, I don’t think so… By the way, that’s the job of his agent to argue that.”

In his first four years as a head coach, Sirianni has gone 48-20 in the regular season, making the playoffs in each season. That has included two trips to the Super Bowl and now a Super Bowl win. Still, at one point, he was on the hot seat this season.

“What’s funny about that is two, three months ago people were calling for his job when he had some emotional outbursts. Number two is his players love him. They believe in the guy, and I don’t know they ever loved him as much as they do today when he has led them to the Super Bowl title, and the players played great,” Schefter said. “But he’s going to get a new deal. They’ll redo it and we’ll see where it comes in but I obviously fully expect it to be north of Ben Johnson.”

The offseason starts now for the Philadelphia Eagles, which will give the two sides time to work out a deal. It only remains to be seen how big a deal they land on.
