The Las Vegas Raiders have a quarterback issue. Yes, that is true, but there are also so many things around Gardner Minshew, or whoever it is at the position on any given Sunday, that affect how the QB plays. This year, it’s been injuries everywhere, the offensive line, and even the WR room. But, the QB problem takes most of the blame.
On Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, Minshew or Ridder weren’t great. There is no hiding that. They could have been much better, but they really didn’t have any help from the trenches up front. A few guys played well, but overall, the entire offensive line was poor, and the advanced stats back that up.
This was one of the worst offensive lines the Raiders have thrown together for a game in some time. Here are what the advanced stats say from NGS and NFL Pro:
It certainly didn’t help that left tackle Kolton Miller went out, and it won’t help that he could be out for a bit based on some of the reactions we are seeing from him being in a boot post-game in the locker room. Once Thayer Munford went in at left tackle, the QB was pretty much doomed every single snap.
The Raiders, if they want to keep their rookie quarterback that they drafted this offseason, safe and sound, will need to improve their offensive line greatly. It’s funny that rookies Jackson Powers-Johnson and DJ Glaze have been the two consistent in the positives that surround the offensive line. So, they are good. Every other position needs improvement in some form or fashion.
The Raiders offensive line will have a tough task in the next few weeks. After the bye week this week, they will then face the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, and the Kansas City Chiefs again before playing Vita Vea and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
