Packers on High Alert: Packers’ Top Assistant in High Demand as Another Team Enters Fray to Poach Him, Sparking Coaching Chaos

The Green Bay Packers‘ staff is catching the attention of teams around the league . When it seemed like the offensive side of the ball wouldn’t suffer more losses after Tom Clements’ retirement, another piece of news emerged indicating that offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich might be elsewhere in 2025.

According to KPRC2’s NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Houston Texans are interested in Stenavich for their open offensive coordinator position. Even though it’s the same position, it’s actually considered a promotion because Stenavich would call plays and lead the unit, so the Packers can’t block it—even if head coach Matt LaFleur wanted to do so.

The Texans fired former offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik after two seasons, and head coach DeMeco Ryans have already interviewed other seven candidates. Curiously, when Lafleur got his first NFL job as an offensive assistant for the Texans between 2008 and 2009, Ryans was still playing in Houston.

Trajectory

Adam Stenavich has generated buzz in this hiring cycle. He interviewed for the Chicago Bears head coaching job that ultimately went to Ben Johnson, and for the Seattle Seahawks OC position—Klint Kubiak got the job.

A former NFL offensive lineman, Stenavich has been an NFL coach since 2017, when he was hired by Kyle Shanahan as an assistant offensive line coach. When Matt LaFleur built his original staff in 2019, Steno joined the Packers as an offensive line coach.

Since then, he has been promoted twice. In 2021, to run game coordinator (in addition to his position as OL coach). In 2022, when Nathaniel Hackett left Green Bay to be the Denver Broncos head coach, Stenavich was elevated to offensive coordinator.

This offseason, the Packers have only lost one offensive coach so far—quarterbacks coach Tom Clements retired. To replace him, Green Bay promoted former offensive assistant Sean Mannion. Moreover, Luke Getsy was retained as a senior offensive assistant after finishing last season as a part-time defensive consultant.

If the Packers need to replace Adam Stenavich, the most obvious options include bringing Nathaniel Hackett back—he’s expected to be let go by the New York Jets— or promoting passing game coordinator Jason Vrable.

On Friday, the Packers also lost a defensive assistant. Former linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator Anthony Campanile was hired to be the next Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive coordinator. The team had also fired defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich, replacing him with former New England Patriots defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington.
