Packers on the Brink of a Massive Splash: Elite Pass Rusher Headed to Green Bay
The Green Bay Packers could certainly use an elite edge rusher. And while Maxx Crosby is still under contract with the Las Vegas Raiders for two more seasons, it doesn’t mean something can’t happen in that regard.
Crosby is slated to make $23.1 million in 2025 and $19.7 million in 2026, what could be considered a below-market deal based on his production. But more importantly, the player can compete for a Super Bowl, and there isn’t a clear path for doing so with the Raiders.
When talking about the future of some top edge rushers, NFL Network’s insider Ian Rapoport specifically mentioned the Packers as a logical landing spot for Crosby.
“Still only 27, Crosby has said before he wants to be a ‘Raider for life’ and has been loyal to the organization. He also has been open about his frustrations with the team’s seemingly endless string of changes and mounting losses. Crosby wants to win and be a big reason behind the success. While the hiring of Super Bowl winner Pete Carroll was a step toward stability, the Raiders still don’t have a franchise quarterback and have a ton of work to do to field a competitive roster. Trading Crosby for a bounty of picks would be one way to expedite that process, and Crosby might welcome the change, particularly if it’s to a playoff team where he knows people (e.g. Green Bay). Crosby has two years and about $44 million remaining on the contract extension he signed in 2022.”
Maxx Crosby knows Packers assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia, who was the interim head coach when the Raiders last reached the playoffs in 2021. There are some former teammates as well, like Josh Jacobs and Keisean Nixon.
It’s not easy to make something like that happen, though. Maxx Crosby would probably demand a new contract extension, and the combination of draft capital and big contract is risky.
This past season, Crosby generated 7.5 sacks and 54 pressures.
A fourth round pick in 2019, the edge defender has been a Second-Team All-Pro twice (2021 and 2023) and a Pro Bowler four times. He will be 28 years old by the start of next season.
