Packers Pull Off Shocking Heist: Green Bay About to Land Key Contributor from Eagles’ Championship Squad
Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers will have a lot of options this offseason. They have some cap space to utilize and also have a few needs to focus on improving.
One of those needs will be adding to their pass rush. While the Packers saw major defensive improvement under defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley in his first year with the team, they could use more help off the edge.
With that being said, there are a lot of potential options for Green Bay to consider during the NFL offseason.
Could the Packers consider trying to steal a key piece away from the Philadelphia Eagles that helped lead the team’s impressive Super Bowl run?
Rucker Haringey of FanSided has named defensive end Josh Sweat as a “dream” free agency target for Green Bay. He thinks that the addition of Sweat would help the Packers contend for a Super Bowl in 2025.
“If Green Bay wants to pry Sweat away from Philadelphia they will need to make a strong offer the minute free agency begins,” Haringey wrote. “He could be the missing piece for Jeff Hafley’s aggressive defense in 2025 if the Packers can win the race to sign him.”
Truthfully, Sweat is exactly the kind of addition that Green Bay needs to make on the defensive side of the ball. He is a disruptive presence off of the edge and could pair nicely with Rashan Gary.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Eagles, Sweat played in 16 games. He racked up 41 tackles, eight sacks, and two defended passes.
In the playoffs, he ended up with 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
At 27 years old, Sweat would fit the outlook for the Packers. He would be able to come in and be a building block for the defense for years to come. That is the kind of piece that Gutekunst will likely be looking to add this offseason.
