Patrick Mahomes Makes Shocking Confession: He Reveals the Silver Lining of Playing Nail-Biting Games
The Kansas City Chiefs may be 11-1 but they’ve played in a lot of close games this year.
They’ve come close to having multiple losses but have made just enough plays to squeak out with some wins, including their last-second win against the Denver Broncos on November 10. They blocked the Broncos’ last-second field goal attempt to escape with a 16-14 win.
They also got a last-second turnover in their 19-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday.
While these close games get the fans super nervous, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes confirmed that these close games keep him and the rest of the team focused.
“It keeps you motivated, which I think can be a good thing in the end. I think sometimes I look back on the year we lost the Super Bowl (2020 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), and we were very dominant throughout the regular season and it’s just kind of like you get to this point where you start coasting (since) you’re winning games, you’re just doing the normal thing,” Mahomes told ESPN’s Adam Teicher.
This season, the Chiefs have done anything but coast even though they’re 11-1. They’ve had to scratch and claw for their wins but the close wins have gotten them into the playoffs as they go for three Super Bowls in a row.
No team has ever won three Super Bowls in a row and the Chiefs are trying to be the first to do it.
They’ll go for their 12th win of the season when they host the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday on Sunday Night Football.
