Raiders Make a Stunning Decision on Devante Adams: Reunion Plans Revealed
The Las Vegas Raiders trading Davante Adams to the New York Jets for a third-round pick during the season ended up being a big win for the team. They weren’t close to being a playoff team and Adams did nothing to improve the Jets in a meaningful way.
Plus, the Raiders just used the third-round pick they got from New York to land Geno Smith. After all that, Las Vegas could feasibly re-sign Adams in free agency. The Raiders have a big need at wide receiver and he’s likely the best one available in free agency.
However, that’s not going to happen, according to Tashan Reed of The Athletic.
“The top receiver on the market is Davante Adams, but a reunion with the Raiders is completely off the table, according to league sources,” Reed wrote in a Sunday column.
The Raiders have a new coaching staff and front office in place so it’s interesting that they’d still have no interest in reuniting with him. That said, the feeling is probably mutual.
While there are new coaches and people running the team, there are dozens of players still on the roster who might not be keen on playing with Adams again after how he exited last season. If the Raiders are still hoping to add a veteran wide receiver in free agency, Chris Godwin is the most likely option.
He spent years playing with Tom Brady and working with John Spytek in Tampa Bay so they know him well. He’s a name to watch for the Raiders once the free agency opens up.
