Raiders’ Playoff Push Gets a Boost: Raiders’ Running Back News Changes Everything

With one game left in the 2024 regular season, the Las Vegas Raiders can choose to play for a good draft pick or pride against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

For the team’s sake, fans would likely want them to lose so that they could either keep their current position (eighth) or even move up in the order despite the Chargers being an arch-rival.

Leading up to Sunday, the team revealed that running back Ameer Abdullah is doubtful to play in the game with a foot injury. According to a source from The Athletic , running back “Alexander Mattison will start” in place of Abdullah.

After spending the first five years with the Minnesota Vikings, Mattison joined the Raiders this year to hopefully bring depth to the running back position. However, he has not been as productive as the team wanted him to be, only amounting to 400 yards on the ground so far this year, along with just four touchdowns.

While he has not been utilized much as the main back in recent weeks, Mattison will have one more opportunity to prove himself on Sunday that he has potential to be a threat in the backfield. He has established himself as a power back throughout his NFL career, but he has also notched 32 receptions this season, which tied his career high from 2021.
