Raiders Pull Off Blockbuster Trade for Game-Changing Deep Threat: Prized Playmaker Heads to Las Vegas
Ever since the Las Vegas Raiders solved their immediate quarterback issue by trading for Geno Smith, their draft strategy became much more wide open.
Among the positions the Raiders need the most help at, wide receiver comes to mind. While the passing game will rely on tight end Brock Bowers for the foreseeable future, the team needs options to keep defenses from keying on him too often. Jakobi Meyers certainly helps after recording his first 1,000-yard season in 2024, but he projects more as a quality number two receiver, meaning the Raiders still need another.
Come draft night, the Raiders have one such option available to them.
The Raiders have the resources to swing a deal for one of the NFL’s premier speedsters.
According to Moe Moton of Bleacher Report, the Raiders are a team that could be interesting in trading for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Hill has been rumored to want out of Miami since saying that he wanted out after the Dolphins’ season came to an end, so the Raiders can easily see what it would take to get him.
In his hypothetical trade, Moton has the Raiders acquiring Hill and Miami’s fifth-round picks in 2025 and 2026. In exchange, the Dolphins receive wide receiver Tre Tucker, as well as the Raiders’ third-round picks in 2025 and 2026.
“Raiders general manager John Spytek values his draft picks, so he would probably negotiate an even pick swap in a deal for Hill,” Moton wrote about the trade. “Nonetheless, he should consider acquiring the dynamic wideout for a big-play boost to the team’s passing attack.”
Hill’s bread and butter since entering the league has been his penchant for big plays in the passing game. With nearly-unmatched speed, Hill has earned his place as one of the best deep threats in NFL history. The Raiders brought in Smith to help bring in a new aggression on offense, and there are few better ways to add to that than with a home-run threat roaming the field.
“The Raiders can bring in Hill as an upgrade over Tucker to field a more explosive offense with Smith’s ability to sling the ball accurately downfield,” Moton added. “Because head coach Mike McDaniel emphasizes offensive speed, he may want Tucker in a deal.”
Essentially, in exchange for upgrading their primary speed receiver, the Raiders move down two rounds in both this and next year’s drafts.
It is up to Spytek and the rest of the Raiders braintrust to decide if pursuing a Hill deal is worth it.
