Raiders Pull Off Stunning Coup: Ex-Patriots QB Set to Bring Championship Pedigree to Las Vegas
Losing in New England is never the goal, and for a New England Patriots organization that has done nothing but win for much of the past 20-plus years, the past few seasons haven’t been up to their standards.
There are many reasons for that, but better days seem to be ahead with young quarterback Drake Maye.
Thinking about some of the other quarterbacks the Patriots have put on the field in recent seasons isn’t what any New England fan wants to remember. That includes Jacoby Brissett, who started multiple games before the keys were handed to Maye in 2024.
Brissett is an excellent professional. He isn’t a typical starter, but if needed for a spot start here and there, he’s typically done the job throughout his career.
Unfortunately, New England had him in a position that he isn’t too familiar with, and that’s starting games for a fan base that expects plenty.
The results weren’t promising, throwing for just two touchdowns in seven appearances, but he should find a new home this offseason as a backup.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports predicted that would be with the Las Vegas Raiders, an intriguing landing spot with the Raiders expected to have a rookie quarterback under center if their NFL Draft goes as planned.
“We think Las Vegas is primed to do everything in its power to secure new coach Pete Carroll (and new minority owner Tom Brady) a young arm like Shedeur Sanders. Brissett could be the veteran mentor,” Benjamin wrote.
It’s possible that Las Vegas or another team that signs Brissett could view him as a starter if they bring in a rookie quarterback like Maye.
If the Raiders draft Shedeur Sanders, that might not be the plan, but the Patriots did it with Maye, so nothing should be counted out.
Even if he doesn’t start, Las Vegas could entice him with Pete Carroll and one of the biggest fan bases in the world.
