Raiders Roar into Action: Las Vegas Makes Surprise Roster Move Without General Manager
Believe it or not, it is possible to make roster moves without actually having a general manager. The Las Vegas Raiders just did that.
Now, it wasn’t a game-breaking roster move or anything that will change the way the league is now viewed, blah blah blah. It’s just a simple reserve/futures contract.
They did that on Monday.
Raiders sign Jackson Mitchell to Reserve/Futures contract
Jackson Mitchell, a former standout linebacker at UConn, has now joined the Las Vegas Raiders after a winding journey through the NFL. During his time at UConn, he amassed 438 tackles, placing him third on the school’s all-time list, and was recognized as a Butkus Award semifinalist in 2022. His tackling prowess was evident as he led the team with 113 tackles in his senior year, one of the highest in the FBS.
After going undrafted, Mitchell first signed with the Carolina Panthers in May 2024 but was soon waived. He was then claimed by the Raiders in August 2024, only to be waived again later that year. Known for his tackling ability from his college days, he’s poised to make an impact in run defense at the professional level, but the rest of his game needs some work and development, and that’s what these reserve/futures contracts are for.
His current contract with the Raiders gives him an opportunity to fight for a roster spot in training camp.
