Rams’ Offense in Good Hands: Rams Promote Sharp Coach to Drive Offense
The Los Angeles Rams have elevated Nate Scheelhaase to the position of passing game coordinator, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Despite attracting interest and interviewing for several offensive coordinator positions, Scheelhaase has chosen to remain with the Rams, accepting increased responsibilities within the organization.

Scheelhaase has already seen a rapid rise through the NFL ranks. Following a long stint at Iowa State that culminated in him being named OC, he joined the Rams last offseason as their new pass-game specialist. Despite injuries to Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, the Rams passing offense still finished 2024 ranked in the top 10, and the 34-year-old started drawing some interest for promotions.
Former Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen interviewed him for the open OC job with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Scheelhaase was also interviewed to replace Coen with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It was reported by Fowler and Ian Rapoport early in February that Scheelhaase would not move on from the Rams to pursue either opportunity.
The promotion of Scheelhaase likely brings a sense of relief to Rams head coach Sean McVay. Having already seen a key member of his offensive staff depart—tight ends coach Nick Caley, who accepted the head coaching position with the Houston Texans—McVay faced the potential loss of additional personnel. Quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone was also a candidate for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator role. However, with Scheelhaase remaining in Los Angeles, the Rams can now be assured that only one member of their offensive coaching staff was recruited away this offseason.
Several prominent NFL coaches have served in the role under McVay.
