Rams on the Verge of a Blockbuster Signing: Super-Bowl Winning LB Ready to Join Roster
As the NFL offseason approaches, teams are starting to do research on who they want to target in free agency.
The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly looking at a former Super Bowl champion, Kansas City linebacker Nick Bolton, to add to their defense.
Bolton, a four-year pro out of Missouri, has been an essential piece of the Chiefs’ defense in the middle of the field. However, Kansas City must pay him a premium as he enters unrestricted free agency this summer. After signing a four year, $5,834,032 contract with the Chiefs after they picked him in the second round, Bolton will be seeking a payday as a free agent.
According to CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani, the Rams could be the team that ends up giving him that big payday.
“The Rams have a talented defensive front with Braden Fiske, Jared Verse, Byron Young etc,” wrote Dajani. “Now, they need a veteran inside backer to fly around at the second level. That’s Nick Bolton. He’s averaged over eight tackles per game over 57 contests, recorded a career-high three sacks in 2024 and even made a case for Super Bowl MVP a couple years ago when he had a scoop-and-score vs. the Eagles. Bolton’s talent and leadership is needed in L.A.”
According to Spotrac, Bolton is projected to sign a deal worth almost $50 million over four years this offseason. The Chiefs only have $11.5 million in cap space, making it extremely difficult for them to re-sign Bolton and keep the rest of their roster together.
The Rams secured a postseason berth last season and made it into the divisional round before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in a game that showed them how desperately they need an upgrade at linebacker. Bolton figures to be a perfect fit if the Rams can convince him to sign.
