Report: Caleb Williams Brings Bears to Nation’s Capital for Commanders’ Showdown
The Chicago Bears’ Week 8 matchup with the Washington Commanders will mean a little more for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Having grown up in Bowie, Maryland (just outside of Washington, D.C.), the Bears passer will surely have a crowd of family and friends in attendance on Sunday.
Hometown games like this often get brushed aside as no big deal, but I beg to differ. I believe the team someone grows up around shapes their football perspective. There’s an existing connection — whether avid or casual — that’s hard to get rid of.
Most importantly, it’s where his family and strongest relationships rest.
With Williams’ rise to stardom leaving seldom opportunities to return home, Sunday’s game at Northwest Stadium will surely elicit emotions tied to relationships and memories from back home.
I remember being excited for Justin Fields’ first game in Atlanta against his hometown Falcons. That was a struggle, as the Bears lost 27-24 with Fields throwing a late interception on a potential game-winning drive. Had the Bears won that game, Williams might be playing for the Commanders right now. Funny how that works.
Let’s hope Sunday’s game goes more smoothly for Williams and the Bears.
