Report: Patriots Offense Reacts to Mayo’s Comments: ‘Never Been Called Soft Before’
Jerod Mayo’s comments after Sunday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London have caused quite a stir.
The team did not play well in all areas, so when he spoke to reporters after the game, he didn’t hold back.
“We’re a soft football team across the board,” Mayo said after the 32-16 loss.
The head coach clarified that he meant the team played soft, but it still had a large impact. And because of that, many players were asked what their thoughts were when they heard that.
Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte’s answer was especially interesting.
“I’ve never been called soft by a coach,” wide receiver Kayshon Boutte admitted. “I feel like it was a shot at the whole team and not an individual perspective.
“But I feel like you’ve got to play harder. We’re tired of being 1-6, coming in and saying the same stuff every week, so I understand where he was coming from.”
While all the losses have been tough, Sunday’s defeat to the Jaguars was especially eye-opening for the Patriots.
It was two 1-5 teams competing against each other, giving New England the perfect opportunity to get back on track. But instead, they struggled on every side of the ball, losing their sixth straight matchup.
And they feel the same way about the 1-6 record.
