Rizzo Speaks Out! Former Cubs Legend Break Silence Amid Free Agency Drama

Former Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo will go down as one of the better players in franchise history.

Rizzo did everything he could to help the Cubs win a World Series in 2016, but his future with the team was in question just a few years later.

The Cubs decided to move on from the aging first baseman in 2021, a move that made sense at the time.

Rizzo clearly wasn’t the same player he once was, and that was evident with the New York Yankees.

In his 2024 stint with the Yankees, he was one of the worst players in Major League Baseball.

Rizzo is now a free agent and has yet to find a home.

Unfortunately, not many teams around the league are interested in adding a 35-year-old first baseman who’s struggled on both sides in recent years.

And to make matters worse, Rizzo seemingly understands that.

“I want to play. I want to win. And I love talking the game with pitchers, with hitters. There’s so much to dive into. Everything that goes into it, on the field, off the field, I’ll still be talking about it with guys. We’ll just see if I continue playing,” Rizzo said, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Given that he’s a worthy veteran and, at the very least, could be somebody an organization values to have in their clubhouse, Rizzo should eventually find a team.

However, if that isn’t in the near future, he’ll likely have to take a minor league deal with a big league spring training invite.
