Rojas Retirement Plan: Dodgers Shortstop Eyes Final Chapter with LA, Hopes to Hang Up Cleats in Blue

Among the Los Angeles Dodgers’ offseason moves so far was exercising Miguel Rojas’ $5 million club option for 2025.

The veteran shortstop is set to return to the Dodgers for a fourth season after rejoining the team in a trade with the Miami Marlins two years ago.

Rojas originally signed with the Dodgers as a Minor League free agent and made his MLB debut during the 2014 season before spending the next eight years in South Florida.

During an appearance on “The Chris Rose Rotation,” Rojas said he is planning to play a few more seasons and wants to retire with the Dodgers.

“I want to end my career here. Knowing where I’m at in my baseball career, I know I’m going to have to play a couple more years before I retire, and I want to do it here.”

Rojas enjoyed a resurgent season with the Dodgers this year as he batted .283/.337/.410 with 21 doubles, six home runs and 36 RBI in 103 games.

The 35-year-old took over starting duties at shortstop in June after Mookie Betts fractured his left hand. Rojas remained in that role until he sustained a left adductor injury that ultimately became a sports hernia.

After aggravating his injury during the National League Division Series, Rojas was left off the Dodgers roster for the NL Championship Series. He returned for the World Series but only appeared in one game.

“It’s a sports hernia surgery, so I have to get it repaired,” Rojas said of his offseason outlook. “I’ve been talking to people who had this surgery before a little bit and trying to touch base. But I need surgery as soon as it’s possible.”

Miguel Rojas’ role with Dodgers in 2025

Rojas will presumably shift back to a utility role in 2025 as the Dodgers are planning to have Betts return to the infield and primarily play shortstop. Tommy Edman could also see some time at shortstop, but will receive most of his opportunities in center field.
