Sasaki’s Signing Timeline: Wolfe Expect Sasaki to Sign with an MLB Team Shortly After the…
Agent Joel Wolfe, who also represents Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki, spoke at length today at the Winter Meetings about recently-posted Japanese ace Roki Sasaki. Lots to share. And lots of rumors ahead, I suspect.
First thing’s first, there are no geographic limitations for Sasaki, who should be meeting with teams starting as soon as next week.
Wolfe continued to dispel any notion that there’s already an understanding in place with the Dodgers, and that Sasaki could consider a wide range of possible suitors.
You can presume the sales pitches will be robust and aggressive, given that Sasaki is subject to IFA restrictions – he’ll be signing the same way as a true international amateur. Just about every team will be able to offer him a sufficient signing bonus, and thus the process will be entirely about what Sasaki wants for his life, for his development, for his competitiveness, and where he believes he can flourish.
Sounds like Sasaki is a quieter type of player.
