Fresh off winning their second Super Bowl in franchise history, the Philadelphia Eagles face several key decisions heading into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. While most of their offensive nucleus remains intact, the defense has undergone significant changes. The Eagles traded C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Texans and saw Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, Isaiah Rodgers, Darius Slay, and Oren Burks leave in free agency.
Given the departures of Gardner-Johnson, Rodgers, and Slay, it wouldn’t be surprising if Philadelphia focused on bolstering the cornerback position. However, in a recent NFL.com mock draft, Chad Reuter projects the Eagles to continue their aggressive draft strategy by trading up for an All-American defensive lineman. Reuter has general manager Howie Roseman making a deal with the Los Angeles Rams to acquire the No. 26 overall pick, where he predicts Philadelphia will select Ole Miss standout Walter Nolen.
The Eagles have made defensive line a consistent priority, selecting a defensive lineman within the first three rounds in each of the last four drafts. They also used first-round picks in consecutive years on Jordan Davis (2022) and Jalen Carter (2023). As Chad Reuter put it, “Why change something that works?” In his latest mock draft, Reuter projects Philadelphia trading up once again in the first round to land another defensive lineman—this time targeting Walter Nolen to fill the void left by Milton Williams’ departure in free agency.
Reuter’s proposed trade has the Eagles sending their third-round pick along with one of their four fifth-round selections to the Rams in exchange for the No. 26 overall pick and a sixth-rounder.
Nolen, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 296 pounds, had a breakout season at Ole Miss after transferring from Texas A&M. The former five-star prospect recorded career highs in total tackles (48), tackles for loss (14), and sacks (6.5) in what was a consensus All-American campaign.
After fielding the league’s top defense route to their Super Bowl victory, adding a high-upside player like Nolen to a unit already featuring Carter and Davis could help the Eagles remain dominant on that side of the ball.
The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
