Shocking Snub: Draymond Green Overlooked by Ex-NBA Player DPOY Favor
The Golden State Warriors have had a solid season thus far but they are still fighting to stay out of the Play-In in the Western Conference with the playoffs right around the corner.
Golden State has been one of the hottest teams in the NBA since acquiring Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline and with their new superstar trio of him, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, they once again look like a title contender.
Curry and Butler have had great seasons thus far but Green has also had an incredible season that has once again put him in the race for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Of course, it looked like Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs was going to run away with the award in the early part of the season but with him out for the rest of the season due to a blood clot, he is no longer eligible to win the award.
Because of this, Green has now become the favorite to win the award for the second time in his career as he is averaging 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game while posting a defensive rating of 108.7.
Despite this, former NBA player and six-time All-Defensive selection Tony Allen does not have Green as his favorite to win the award.
“Dray (Green) is my boy, but I wouldn’t have him as my favorite. My favorite would be the guy from Atlanta (Dyson Daniels),” Allen said.
Of course, Daniels has had a breakout season in his first year with the Atlanta Hawks and he is in the running for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
The 22-year-old guard is averaging an NBA-best 3.1 steals per game while posting a defensive rating of 110.8.
Both players have had a great season thus far on the defensive side of the ball but as of now, Green is the favorite to win the award with the regular season winding down.
