Slugging Sensation: Dodgers Among Top Landing Spot for…
The Los Angeles Dodgers may have won the World Series in 2024, but could still look to add another star player to their roster. Baltimore Orioles All-Star Anthony Santander is a free agent and could find himself in Los Angeles.
While listing top landing spots for Santander, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer named the Dodgers as a potential suitor in free agency. However, their pursuit of Juan Soto could prevent it from ultimately happening.
“The Dodgers are also in on Soto, and nobody doubts that they’re a legitimate threat. They obviously have the finances, and Soto just got an up-close look at their winning ways in October,” wrote Rymer.
If the Dodgers miss on Soto, and Santander is still available, he could be a great addition to their team. Santander was one of four players to hit 40-plus home runs in 2024. He was named to his first career All-Star game as well.
Spotrac projects Santander to sign a five-year, $88 million deal in free agency.
“Santander’s profile is nonetheless similar to those of Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos when they entered the market after the 2021 season,” wrote Rymer. “The former got four years, $80 million. The latter got five years, $100 million.”
Santander is one of the best available outfielders on the market. However, like other star outfielders, he will likely have to wait until teams know where Soto will sign. The Dodgers could use Santanders if Soto ultimately signs elsewhere, but they could also bring back Teoscar Hernández if they value keeping their World Series team together.
“But if the Dodgers don’t get Soto, what are the chances they simply bring back Hernández instead? Probably high,” wrote Rymer. “They know what he can do and that he wants to come back.”
