Sox Set Their Sights: Dodgers All-Star the Lastest Target in Boston’s…

The Los Angeles Dodgers are riding high after winning the World Series and signing left-hander Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract.

However, there are still questions to answer. Several players from the Dodgers World Series roster are now free agents, including outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, who broke out after signing a one-year deal with the team.

Los Angeles may ultimately lose the two-time All-Star in free agency.

The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham reports that Hernandez could be a fit for the Red Sox.

“The Red Sox were disappointed not to sign Teoscar Hernández last winter, a feeling that only grew as he had a terrific season for the Dodgers, then drove in 12 runs in 16 postseason games,” Abraham wrote.

“Hernández would be perfect for the Sox, who need a righthanded-hitting outfielder, along with leadership.”

If the Dodgers lose Hernandez, it will certainly hurt. The three-time Silver Slugger hit .272 with 33 home runs, 99 RBI, 12 stolen bases and an .840 OPS. He also had a 4.3 WAR, a .501 slugging percentage and a 137 OPS+.

But in the event that he walks, the Dodgers could replace Hernandez by possibly entering the Juan Soto sweepstakes, signing Willy Adames or potentially trading for Nolan Arenado and moving one or both of Tommy Edman and Mookie Betts back to the outfield.

Ideally though, the Dodgers would be able to keep Hernandez around and not have to worry about replacing him. It will be interesting to see what his market looks like in the coming weeks.
