The Toronto Blue Jays surprised the baseball world last offseason when they pursued two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.
Toronto made it further along in the free agent process for Ohtani than many expected it to, and it was willing to offer a mega deal for him. Ohtani ended up signing a $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but it was reported that the Blue Jays were willing to meet that price.
Could they look to make a similar massive move this offseason? New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto likely will get the second-largest contract in Major League Baseball history, with many projecting a deal to be around $500 or $600 million.
The Blue Jays could use an offensive boost in the outfield, and Toronto has been mentioned as a fit for Soto. Although a deal should be considered unlikely, it would be great for Toronto and hurt New York. Because of this, FanSided’s Zach Pressnell called the Blue Jays the top “doomsday” location for Soto from the Yankees’ perspective.
