Sun’s Season on Life Support! NBA Executives Deliver Crushing Verdicts – Phoenix Can’t Succeed in 2024-25
The Phoenix Suns have seen their season completely implode after the front office made multiple tactical errors throughout the season. They first made players like Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkic feel unwanted despite having future destinations for them and then tried pivoting by making Kevin Durant available behind his back.
As a result, morale and chemistry in Phoenix look completely shot. ESPN asked anonymous executives and scouts their opinions on the remaining NBA season, with almost all of them predicting things getting even worse for Phoenix.
“Phoenix, which is wild to say,” a West exec said. “They look like they can’t stand being around each other.”
“I’ve never been high on Phoenix,” a West executive said, “but there’s also no way they are this bad.”
“I would be more optimistic long term in Philly than Phoenix long term because, despite the contracts, they have draft capital and some flexibility,” an East scout said. “At least they’ve got [Tyrese] Maxey, [Jared] McCain, possibly another pick.”
“It feels like the wheels have fallen off,” a West executive said of Phoenix’s season.
The Suns are 27-30 right now, hoping to not only climb above .500 but get back into a Playoff position. They’re three full games behind the No. 9 seeded Golden State Warriors, who are already trending upward after acquiring Jimmy Butler over the winter. Even the No. 10 seed Sacramento Kings have Zach LaVine to use in an upward Playoff push.
The Suns made no meaningful changes outside of adding rotational players at the deadline which can’t change the ceiling of the team. They publicly shopped Bradley Beal, Devin Booker looks exhausted, and Kevin Durant has checked out with a likely departure on the horizon.
