Taking Heat: Analyst’s Hot Take on Jared Goff Sparks Debate

Jared Goff vaulted himself back into the MVP discussion with another great performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11, but nothing he does will ever be enough to silence some critics.

In spite of the fact that Goff is leading one of the best teams in the NFL, there are still some who question him. Can Goff lead the Lions to the Super Bowl? Should the Lions be favorites to win the Super Bowl this year with Goff at the helm?

For Nick Wright of FOX Sports, the answer is a resounding no. Speaking on Monday’s edition of “First Things First”, Wright admitted he wasn’t willing to make the jump and call the Lions the NFL’s best team with Goff as the quarterback.

“I don’t think you can be the best team in the league when you have a civilian at quarterback. I can’t say a team with Jared Goff at quarterback is better than the Chiefs or the Bills. I can’t. I won’t. In the modern NFL, I think it’s very hard to win three straight playoff games with a guy, even if it’s a good guy, at quarterback. That’s what I feel they have. You can be mad. That’s my opinion on the Lions.”

Wright seems to be missing a bigger point. Goff has quarterbacked in a Super Bowl. He also broke Detroit’s drought by winning two postseason games last season.

Goff is not as flashy as Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen, but the players around him differentiate him.
