The KD’s Warriors Reunion We’ve All Been Waiting For! Is it Finally Happening?
It’s better late than never, and the possibilities are endless in the NBA. If the Dallas Mavericks can trade Luka Doncic, don’t count out the Golden State Warriors reuniting with Kevin Durant. During an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Durant hinted at the possibility of a future trade to the Warriors.
Amid the multiple reports conflicting and corroborating with a Warriors and Durant reunion, ultimately, NBA insider Marc Stein’s sources turned out correct, as the Phoneix Suns star remained with his team and Golden State traded for Jimmy Butler.
Reports indicate Durant grew “cold” of a reunion with the Warriors. However, in the ESPN interview, Durant clarified such claims.
“I didn’t ask for a trade from Phoenix,” Durant told ESPN. “But, obviously, when you pay so much for a team, and we’re not playing up to our expectation, someone has to go. Probably should check in with those guys in the front office throughout the rest of the season to see how they’re feeling about the team. I know I’m going to try to keep bringing my best every single day. I’ll let the higher-ups focus on what’s next.”
Durant has only asked for a trade once in his career, and it occurred after an underwhelming and controversial tenure with the Brooklyn Nets. However, after another likely ring-less campaign with the Suns, he could open the door to the franchise’s front office and ask for a move in the summer of 2025.
While Durant didn’t explicitly mention the Warriors as a potential landing spot via trade, he did allude to someone having to go. Phoenix currently ranks 11th in the Western Conference, which puts them outside the NBA Play-In Tournament tier. Given Devin Booker’s youth and success with the franchise and Bradley Beal’s no-trade clause, Durant is likely the odd man out of such an equation.
Perhaps because of his time with Stephen Curry during the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2025 All-Star Game, Durant is warm to the idea of a Warriors reunion.
