The Reliever Rush: Tanner Scott, Devin Williams Lead the Charge in High Stakes Reliever Hunt

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been busy in free agency thus far, inking Blake Snell and reaching reported agreements with Michael Conforto and Blake Treinen.

In addition, they pursued Juan Soto until he signed with the New York Mets and remain in negotiations with Teoscar Hernández. The Dodgers are also expected to be big players for Roki Sasaki, who was officially posted on Monday, and they could add another starting pitcher still while adding some depth to their roster.

But even with all that, they still have their sights set on additional help, specifically another high-leverage reliever for their bullpen. According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Dodgers have shown interest in Tanner Scott and Devin Williams as part of their search.

The reigning World Series champions seek at least one more reliever, league sources tell The Athletic, and are looking at the top of that market. That includes but is not limited to interest in free-agent lefty Tanner Scott, league sources said, and a potential trade for Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams.

Scott is the top free agent reliever available ands should be in line for a significant multi-year contract. The 30-year-old was traded to the San Diego Padres at last year’s deadline from the Miami Marlins.

The left-hander posted a 1.75 ERA, 2.92 FIP and 1.13 WHIP across 72 innings while striking out 28.6% of hitters and walking 12.2%.

Williams is entering the final year team control with the Milwaukee Brewers, and he is expected to be traded this offseason.

He was limited to just 21.2 innings due to a stress fracture in his back to start the year, but he finished out the season with a 1.25 ERA, 2.06 FIP and 0.97 WHIP with a staggering 43.2% strikeout rate and 12.5% walk rate.

Williams has pitched three consecutive seasons with an ERA below 1.95, and he’s had an ERA below 2.50 for five consecutive seasons, tossing 222 in that time frame.

Dodgers current bullpen options

The Dodgers currently have Treinen, Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, Ryan Brasier, Alex Vesia and Anthony Banda as locks in their bullpen.

In addition, the Dodgers have some organizational depth in Michael Grove, Giovanny Gallegos, Edgardo Henriquez, Jack Dreyer and Ben Casparius.
