The 2024 season wasn’t all bad, because rookie quarterback Drake Maye proved to be a solid find with the third pick in the draft. But he was constantly running for his life, and whenever he did have time to throw, there was no one reliable for him to target.
While the Patriots would love a superstar pass-catcher like the Cincinnati Bengals’ Tee Higgins, they may have to look to the draft to find high-end talent. But the wild card would be a receiver who has some superstar numbers in past seasons, yet is coming off a mediocre one.
Amari Cooper, a five-time Pro Bowler who was traded midseason to the Buffalo Bills, is coming off a meager 547 receiving yards in 14 games. But the 10-year veteran should be available for a reasonable price and could provide Maye a solid second-tier option.
