The Wait is Over: Chiefs Icon Earns Long-Overdue Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction
One Kansas City Chiefs legend will be immortalized in Canton, Ohio, as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025.
After five consecutive years of making the finalist round and falling short, former Chiefs DE Jared Allen was finally selected for enshrinement. The Class of 2025 will be inducted next August, but that’s a brief wait for Allen after the past five seasons.
He’ll be joined by Antonio Gates, Eric Allen, and Sterling Sharpe to round out the Class of 2025. The Pro Football Hall of Fame changed their bylaws for this year, ultimately making it harder for players, seniors, coaches, and contributors to be selected. There needs to be an 80 percent consensus vote among Hall of Fame selectors for those to be enshrined. No senior, coach, or contributor candidates reached that threshold, and only J. Allen, E. Allen, Gates, and Sharpe reached it.
Jared Allen finally gets his due in the Pro Football Hall of Fame
A former fourth-round draft pick by Kansas City in 2004, Allen played collegiate football at Idaho State. For the first four seasons of his NFL career, he wreaked havoc on the AFC West with the Chiefs. He started in 10 games as a rookie in 2004, recording 31 total tackles, nine sacks, and 10 tackles for loss. In 2007, he led the NFL in sacks with 15.5, earning a first-team All-Pro selection and Pro Bowl honors.
Allen was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in the 2008 NFL season. He played 11 seasons in the NFL across four teams: the Chiefs, Vikings, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers. He finished his career as a four-time First-Team All-Pro, a five-time Pro Bowler, and two times as the NFL’s sack leader. He tallied 136 sacks (43 of which occurred with Kansas City), which ranks him 12th on the official all-time sack list.
