The Miami Heat are spiralling right now, losing an eighth successive game.

A few games ago the Miami Heat were losing close games and blowing leads. The hope was that sooner or later, they would be able to convert one into a victory.

The wait goes on. Miami are on an unprecedented losing streak, now with eight defeats in a row. The team’s record for the season is now 29-35.

The latest loss was a 116-95 defeat to the New York Knicks, that included a third-quarter blowout at 41-15.

Terry Rozier recently pinpointed the third quarter of games as an area where the Heat have particularly struggled.

Jaime Jaquez on Miami Heat problems

The Miami Heat locker room is not a happy place right now. How could it be, when the team are sliding down the rankings, now 10th in the Eastern Conference below the Chicago Bulls.

Heat guard Jaime Jaquez spoke to reporters in the locker room following the loss to the Knicks, in which he went 6-11-7, failing to get into double figures in points.

He admitted there is a level of frustration among the players, and that they do not want to continue losing games like this.

Jaquez explained: “It’s obviously difficult. We want to win games. Things just are not going the way we want them to go right now.

“Basketball is part of life, so collectively, we got to just come together and figure something out. Because obviously no one wants to keep going through this. No one wants to do this.”

On how the players would follow up, he said simply: “Going back to practice, go back to our shoot arounds and and figure out how to overcome this once again.”

Jacquez admits he must improve

Jaime Jaquez admitted that improvement must start with himself, referring to turnovers he committed, and also explained the Heat players were too focused on trying to top the Knicks.

He explained: “Offensively, we got a little bit sticky with the ball. You know, everybody, myself I know, had a bunch of turnovers this game.

“There was a big emphasis on what they were doing, trying to pack the paint, and just trying to overcome that as a team. It gets difficult.

“Everybody wants to win, but, you can’t. It’s really hard to win. We have over 20 turnovers, almost impossible. So it’s something that we got to just come together and figure out, and you just got to keep fighting.”

The Heat were without Andrew Wiggins, and struggled with Bam Adebayo scoring only 12 points. Duncan Robinson led with 22.

The players have admitted there is a feeling of ‘shame’ with their current losing run, and there is a chance it extends to double figures.

Next up they will have to ‘fight’ against a competitive Detroit Pistons team, before taking on the playoff bound Houston Rockets.
