Trade Winds Blowing on the South Side! White Sox Star’s Intriguing Comments Fuel Speculation
For now, the Chicago White Sox have no plans on trading former All-Star outfielder Luis Robert Jr.
Down the line, the 27-year-old Robert may find himself in a new uniform—and the White Sox may have inadvertently confirmed it at the start of spring training.
According to White Sox reporter Scott Merkin, Roberts’ locker at Camelback Ranch is the first to the left. As Robert recently told Merkin, the players who had that locker before him subsequently departed the White Sox.
“I might be the next one,” Robert acknowledged.
Merkin noted former AL MVP José Abreu and longtime infielder Yoán Moncada previously held that locker. Abreu, a three-time All-Star and beloved first baseman, joined the Houston Astros in free agency following the 2022 season.
Moncada and the White Sox parted ways after last season. The 10th-year veteran is currently trying to revive his career with the Los Angeles Angels.
Robert is only two seasons removed from an All-Star and Silver Slugger campaign. He hit .264 with 38 home runs, 80 RBI, 36 doubles, and a fantastic .857 OPS for the White Sox.
However, injuries and inconsistency forced massive regression in all statistics last season. That likely won’t stop teams from pursuing a 27-year-old with three seasons—two of which are club options—left on his deal.
We previously proposed the New York Yankees trade for Robert, a move that makes more sense after Giancarlo Stanton (elbows) landed on the injured list.
There have been no recent credible trade reports involving Robert or any White Sox players.
“I try to enjoy this time here,” Robert said. “I try to enjoy being with my teammates and the clubhouse. Just trying to enjoy the whole experience.”
