Victory Monday Cheese Curds: Packers set some historic marks in win over Rams
The Green Bay Packers needed some help from their defense to get their offense going on Sunday afternoon, but the third quarter saw the two sides of the football play complementary football to lead the team to a 24-19 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
With the offense sputtering through much of the first half, safety Xavier McKinney came up big with a pair of turnover plays, and tight end Tucker Kraft did the rest.
Kraft’s two-touchdown day was the first time a Packers tight end has found the end zone twice in a single game since early 2020, when Robert Tonyan put up three scores against the Atlanta Falcons in week 4. That’s a fun bit of trivia, as is the fact that Xavier McKinney is now the first player since at least 1970 to record an interception in his first five consecutive games with a new team.
All in all, the Packers didn’t look like an elite team on Sunday afternoon, but they did something that some other recent Packers teams have not: they managed to win a game on the west coast when not playing anywhere close to their best football. That alone is worth some praise, as well as a sigh of relief as they ensured that they would not lose ground on the rest of the NFC North this week.
