Wembanyama’s Worst Nightmare! Illness Threatens to Sideline Him Against Spurs
The second half of the season begins on Thursday for the Phoenix Suns as the NBA All-Star break is officially behind them.
On Thursday night, the Suns are set to face off against the San Antonio Spurs. This game will take place at the Moody Center on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin instead of the Spurs’ Frost Bank Arena in San Antonio.
This is the first game of a back-to-back the Spurs will play in Austin and also marks the third consecutive season that San Antonio will play a pair of home games in Austin.
Of course, with the game at the Moody Center, it will be a nice homecoming for Suns’ star forward Kevin Durant. Durant starred in his lone college season at Texas before being selected second overall in the 2007 draft.
While this game was set to be a great one due to the amount of star power in it, the Spurs may be without their superstar center Victor Wembanyama. San Antonio listed Wembanyama as doubtful for the game on Wednesday with an illness.
For Wembanyama, this is the second illness he has had this season. The first came after the Spurs’ trip to Paris for two games in late January, which caused the star center to miss their game on Feb. 1. He has since played in all six of the Spurs’ games leading up to the All-Star break, and he also took part in both the Skills Challenge and All-Star game over the weekend.
This is a major blow for the Spurs, who will now likely be without their French star for a pivotal matchup against Phoenix.
While Wembanyama will likely miss the game, the two squads enter Thursday night’s matchup mainly healthy. San Antonio has listed Charles Bassey out with left MCL sprain and the Suns will once again be without Cody Martin.
Fans can catch Thursday night’s matchup between the Suns and Spurs at 9:30 p.m. EST on TNT.
