Yankees Need to Replace Anthony Rizzo: Why Phillies’ $142M Star is the Answer
The Philadelphia Phillies could shake up their roster after a disappointing postseason in 2024. That could mean trading away an All-Star.
While listing players the New York Yankees could target to replace Anthony Rizzo at first base, FanSided’s Jacob Mountz urged the team to trade for Alec Bohm.
Bohm is “on the trade block,” according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. He cited Bohm’s behavior when frustrated as a reason. Bohm earned his first career All-Star selection in 2024. He will not be a free agent until after 2026. Spotrac projects him to sign a seven-year, $142 million deal in free agency.
“Bohm is expected to make $8.1 million next season before entering arbitration 3. Bohm will be a free agent after the 2026 season,” wrote Mountz. “One of the downsides would be that his agent is Scott Boras, which means that extending him if he does well in the Bronx would likely be wasted consideration since Boras is vehemently anti-extension.”
The Yankees need to find a new first baseman after Rizzo’s departure. Bohm could give them an option for at least two seasons before he hits the market.
