Warriors Make Massive Move! Key Signing Boosts Golden State’s Playoff Hopes
The Golden State Warriors have signed forward Kevin Knox for the remainder of the 2024-25 NBA season, strengthening their roster as they push toward the playoffs.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the signing, noting that Knox had been playing under consecutive 10-day contracts with the team.
Kevin Knox Seeks Stable NBA Home
Knox, originally drafted ninth overall in the 2018 NBA draft by the New York Knicks, has struggled to find a consistent role in the NBA. He has bounced among five teams over his career. Knox appeared in seven games this season with the Warriors, averaging 4.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in 7.3 minutes per contest.
Despite a modest 27.3 percent shooting from three-point range with Golden State, he demonstrated significant improvement in the G League, where he shot 43.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Before joining the Warriors, Knox’s career included a promising rookie season with the Knicks, averaging 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. However, shooting efficiency and defense issues have hindered his ability to secure a more permanent position.
Kevin Knox Stayed Patient with Golden State Warriors
After his second 10-day contract expired, Golden State temporarily removed Knox from its roster, a move Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area attributes to the team’s strategy of managing cap space while still meeting league roster requirements.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr expressed optimism about Knox’s contributions to the team following his first appearance this season.
“So proud of Kevin,” Kerr said, according to Johnson. “He’s been through a lot, coming around and committing to his time in Santa Cruz and getting better and improving. I think he can help us. He only got in for a few minutes at the end, but you see the talent. I have no doubt that there’s going to be some games where we put him out there, and he’s going to help.”
Golden State has a 13-2 record and the second-best net rating in the league over its past 15 games. The addition of Knox aims to bolster the team’s depth as it navigates the competitive Western Conference standings.
